Facing History

Hello friends and fellow history enthusiasts! I’m delighted that you found your way here. For those who know me, it might come as quite a shock to discover me messing around with technology and creating an online presence. In my defense, I can only confess that after a lifetime spent on one side or the other of a lectern, I miss being in the classroom happily engaged in lively discussions about the subject most dear to my heart: history.

I want to reopen my classroom to a larger audience of former students, old and new friends, and history enthusiasts of every stripe. My hope is that you will find material at this site to awaken imagination, nourish a sense of wonder, fertilize the intellect, and provoke reflection. Serious stuff with some laughs. Let’s continue the conversation and allow our shared curiosity room to roam.

For those who wish to linger a bit, I’ve added a couple of simple subscription options that provide access to the full collection of essays, along with additional material—historical notes, trivia, and the occasional behind-the-scenes commentary. No pressure, of course, but the door is open.
